On the day a Neeraj Pandey produced movie, Rustom, hits the theatres, Pandey’s fourth directorial venture, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’s trailer, got released. With A Wednesday, Special 26 and Baby like biography, Pandey Ji almost assures six sigma quality. The trailer is fascinating and showcases the struggles of a determined boy willing to make it big from a state and a region, not known to contribute much to India’s sporting folklore.
You see the grind and unfairness a small town boy has to go through – how he had to finish an exam in a hurry and hop on a bike to play a lower division game, how a selector gave him just three balls to bat and showcase his selection credentials, the pressure he constantly lived under a middle class roof to take the job of a railway ticket checker and much more.
Watch fascinating trailer of MS Dhoni: An Untold story:
The trailer’s release timing and the protagonist’s struggles are very ironic. It clashes with an ongoing test match at Caribbean islands, where the Indian team management has changed batting and bowling order only to accommodate a big city star player in playing XI. It’s a test match where M.S.Dhoni isn’t playing; a format from where he has retired. Watching the trailer will make you long to see M.S. Dhoni the cricketer, back on field.
Sushant Singh Rajput is top draw even in the 3:17 min trailer and you can feel his pains and problems. You want to root for him here itself despite well aware that M.S.Dhoni is going to lift all possible trophies cricket has to offer. Somewhere deep down I always thank Sourav Ganguly for opening gates of spotting talent in small towns and getting them into the national cricket setup.
Biography movies don’t do too well in box office (the last one, Mary Kom saw moderate success), and barring Lagaan, cricket based movies haven’t done too well too, including the latest Dishoom. But this is Mahi we are talking about. The man, the player, the captain, the helicopter shot owner, the long flowing hair, the best stumper in the game and the legend.
